One by One They Fall
The call of the day
holds sway, o’er the masses;
wrapping them up
within the discordant arms
of contradictory desires.
Freedom for all
as long as it’s how I say.
Judge not—lest ye be judged
or…if you think like me.
I’m right…you’re wrong,
and never shall the two meet.
Contrary beliefs cannot exist,
in the world we envision.
For all must be one,
all must agree;
when we become androids,
devoid of all emotions,
that is when unity and peace
shall be found.
For it is human nature
that connects desire and hate;
war and peace; life and death.
If we conquer one—we conquer all.
Like dominos they fall, knocking down
our humanity in a deluge of conformity.
And when the smoke settles,
peace reigns! Yet in our emotionless state,
we do not understand, just why
we don’t appreciate it.

There is so much depth in this, it must be read over and over again. I wonder when people will learn that it is our differences that cause us to grow and learn, rather than similarities. I suspect this is why we are made different, each of us.
I was watching a documentary about Charles Darwin last night just before I called you. This reminded me of it; how he struggled so much with his theories and ideas that were considered heretic at the time. So much so that it affected his health. I wonder what the world would be today if he had not conquered his fears and did not dare to be different.

The ironic part is that our differences brings out such powerful emotional responses from us. I actually think that it is the high emotions that brings advancement. Still, I think more of Galileo and Aristotle than Darwin in terms of making conscious efforts to understand and grow, while being different.

We all have a need to be accepted and validated, when people disagree with us, this brings out those needs, in the form of emotions. If people could learn to control their emotions, not suppress, but control, and learn to accept that it doesn’t matter if everyone agrees with them or not, or that they don’t have to agree with others, but neither is right or wrong, well the world we be so much a better place.
Yes, I agree Gallileo and Aristotle certainly were more conscious with their efforts to understand and grow as you said. Different time than Darwin though. Darwin’s time was at the height of change and revolution in Europe. The church still held powerful sway over everything, including science. Can you imagine the pressure he must have felt when wanting to say that God did not create man as we are now, but instead that we evolved from animals. (Among his other theories) The very foundation of the world and it’s beliefs at the time he challenged.

I think for many people actually having world peace is abstract and unimaginable. We as a species have lived for so long with violence as common place, that we cannot fathom life without it. What would we do, what would be our purpose in life if not to either inflict or soothe pain in others?

The idea of world peace is abstract for a good reason. I remember hearing somewhere (I must research this) that there has only been about 50 years in all of recorded human history where there was no war being fought anywhere on the planet. Couple that with all the individual violence that people perform on each other, and I truly believe that part of human nature is (to some degree) to be violent. 😦

Understanding is hardly in this world, never has been when many things and priorities are involved.
If we all think the same way this would be pointless, all the journey, no learning, nothing.

I like this a lot. I agree wholeheartedly. My only problem is that I believe that others have the right to believe what they wish, but I’m not supposed to? That’s when I get annoyed.
