Nine Years Later

Nine Years Later

Under crystalline skies, memories rise
up, harkening back to nightmare attacks.
And the pain lingers on, faded but never gone.
For on that dark day, when evil held sway,
my naiveté died. Shocked numb, I cried.
I watched—death unfold, shivering from the cold
heartless actions of man.  Yet, unity began,
only to disappear. Division reared
its ugly head. Upon its virulence, evil fed.
And we lost sight of ourselves, even knowing the cost
we would pay…in blood—a torrential flood.
We’d rather turn a blind eye, to the sky;
bury our heads in the sand, than demand
that justice be done. The war lost, before it begun.
And so, as we walk towards fate…upon this date
the Doomsday Clock ticks. It makes me sick
knowing that nine years later, we’re still no safer.

If anything, I feel we are more fractured than we were before that day. At least before we were united in our naive view of the world. 😦

We’re never safe but we can’t live in fear, war is not the answer, never has been, freedom is free if we believe, nobody can trick us with a great speech if we know the truth sadly many believe the speech when it comes, it is easier to fear and to hate than to love apparently, we’re such a confused little specie.

Here is the one area that I have to differ on. Sometimes war is the answer. If it wasn’t, then the entire western world would be living under Nazi rule. Going further back, The United States never would have been born. They’d still be a territory owned by England.

I also believe that Freedom can never be considered free. In this world, there will always be some people that want to control other people. In a person’s desire to live free, they must be willing to defend that right from those who simply want to control them.

It would be wonderful if everyone could live with love in their hearts for their fellow man. I just don’t see that any time in the near future. 😦

excellent write for 9/11. I do agree that we probably won’t see loving our fellow man

Thank you Lori. It’s sad when the unity that came about disappeared within days of it though.
