Pieces

09 Aug

Pieces
Day after night, night after day
I yearn to be with you (regardless of the cost);
to hear your heart beat next to mine,
to feel your lips brush against mine
as I taste your breath—so intoxicating.
For you are the one, the only one
I know matches my soul.
You are the lantern, guiding me
upon the path of love;
showing me the intricacies
of everything it can be.
You are the symphony
that resonates deep within
the very core of my being;
sweeping me along,
lifting me to the very gates of heaven.

I check off each box upon the calendar;
count down the seconds, until I can once again
fly upon the wings of my desire,
at the speed of light back to you.
I rejoice—my heart bursts with
untold emotion as I behold you there.
We belong together.
We are two pieces separated for so long,
and yet (with no effort) we fit perfectly.

Time speeds up.
Relativity betrayed
as life invades,
and responsibility cannot be denied.
I must go back and suffer
separation for however brief
(or not so briefly) it may be.
For every time I leave,
I feel another piece of me
ripped away, left with you,
as I cry…knowing that one day
there’ll be no more separation.
One day we’ll be together – forever
in body as well as soul.

It is that knowledge that sustains
me through the dark days alone.
It is the knowledge
that eventually all I am
will be left with you, and none
will be left to go away.
Life will no longer conspire
to keep us apart.

Until that day my dear,
I’ll continue counting those seconds,
checking those boxes,
and leaving pieces of me
for you to keep safe.

      Thanks Sue. I’ve been in quite a funk lately. I haven’t really felt like writing. I can’t explain it though.

        You are no doubt in a funk
        Long distance romance
        is one of the most painful
        experiences any of us can endure
        to leave your soul in pieces
        as you walk through the door

    I shall always keep you safe in my heart, as I know you will keep me safe in yours. I almost made it the night without tears falling. But now I can’t. I miss you, it hurts. But you’re here, always, and I can go on, waiting. It’s always bittersweet, when you’re here. Coz I know you’ll have to leave soon. As you said; life gets in the way. I love you

      I’m sorry darling. I so didn’t mean to make you cry. 😦

      It’s the time we have together that makes everything else bearable. I cannot wait until the day life stops getting in the way.

    Oh my…. this is just so beautiful, so romantic and yet so palpably painful. You have captured the essence of love and the pain of having to live separate lives. This is an exquisite poem, Craig, and it speaks to the depth of the love the two of you have. Wishing the day comes soon when you can be together!!!

    And it is so wonderful to read your poetry again my friend! Love to you both…

      Thanks Colleen. I really appreciate the critique as well. As I was re-reading it before posting, I wasn’t sure if I captured the feelings the way I hoped.

      Sometimes the distance really takes its toll on me. I cherish the time I can spend with Lissa, but every time I have to leave, it hurts and feels like a part of myself has been left behind.

    lovely tribute to Lissa, and the love you both share. Could feel the pain between the lines. Being apart does hurt.Try to think of it as her safe keeping a bit of you so that it can sustain her Craig. She feels the same way i know. Good to see you writing

      Thanks Lori. I know she feels the same way. I shall definitely try and look at it as she is safekeeping a part of me. 😀

    Fantástico!!!.
    Un sentimiento impresionante rodea las delicadas frases, que hacen referencia a ese amor
